  1. New details have emerged in the case of Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who disappeared after reporting a child on the interstate. According to the police, Russell was captured on surveillance footage walking alone in her neighborhood on the night she returned home. Authorities have spoken to her briefly but are awaiting a more detailed statement about the events during her absence. While her family believes she was abducted, the police have not confirmed this and plan to reveal additional information in an upcoming news conference. (USA TODAY)
  2. The Hartford Nationals, a prestigious event for disabled athletes, will make a triumphant return to Hoover and Birmingham in 2024. Following a successful week of competition and camaraderie in 2023, the organizers announced the eagerly anticipated comeback. Glenn Merry, the executive director of Move United, expressed enthusiasm about returning to Alabama, citing the exceptional support and collaboration from the community, especially the Lakeshore Foundation and the City of Hoover. 3. A judge ruled that Hoover and Helena cannot engage in campaigns to annex landowners in the Indian Ford Fire District outside the city limits until they receive permission from the Jefferson County court. Judge David Hobdy issued the ruling in response to a lawsuit filed by Helena against Hoover on Monday, stating that no action should be taken regarding the annexation until further court orders. The fire district's board of directors also filed a motion to intervene, seeking a ruling in favor of Helena and halting any attempts by Hoover to annex properties, as it could negatively impact the financial stability and well-being of the district's residents.
