Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. The Hoover Police Department will increase patrols over the Halloween weekend. Police will monitor the roads for security while trick-or-treaters are out and about. Officials are asking drivers to exercise caution and keep an eye out for children. (WBRC)
  2. The Bluff Park Witches' Ride is back tomorrow, Oct. 30, so get ready for a howling good time on your bike! You can register and decorate your "broom," throw on a killer costume, grab tons of candy, and fly down the street with a group of new friends. Proceeds from the event will go to The Wellhouse, Inc. (EventBrite)
  3. Students from Alabama lead the nation in maintaining reading and math comprehension throughout the pandemic. At the district level, Alabama schools were among the top-ranked for learning gains among Hispanic and Black students. The state has been working hard to improve scores for students across the country after historically receiving some of the lowest educational rankings in the country. (AL.com)
