Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. A groundskeeping issue poisoned the Ross Bridge golf course, according to the chairman of the company that operates the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Sunbelt Golf Corporation Chairman John Cannon said that a maintenance staff mistook a one-ton bag of herbicide for green sand, and then spread it on almost every green on the property, effectively poisoning the sensitive bent grass. Now, the management company is considering a transition to new greens — much fast than their original three-year plan. Currently, tee times are not available to book at Ross Bridge. (WBRC)
  2. On Monday night, the Hoover zoning board recommended the Hoover City Council approve a mixed-use building in the commercial part of Chace Lake. The recommendation comes despite concerns from numerous residents and a business owner over inadequate parking spaces in the plan. Developer Clint Sukar has proposed building a three-story, 26,700-square-foot building on one acre at 1869 Chace Drive, right at the edge of the commercial sector of Chace Lake and near single-family homes. 3. Hoover Schools and the Hoover Public Library are in the midst of their annual food drive. The two have partnered up to host the drive, going on now through Sep. 30., with a goal to collect 10,000 items. Collection bins are available at eight Hoover schools where you can drop off donations. Click the link to see all the locations. (Hoover Library)
