Suspect In Shelby County Double Homicide Arrested In Florida

HELENA, AL — Helena police and the Shelby County Major Crimes Task Force announced Monday that a suspect in the deaths of Sharon Whited and her Father Chester Tarwater Jr in Helena has been arrested. Law enforcement has identified the suspect as John Peyton Scott III, who has been charged with capital murder.

According to the Helena Police Department, Scott was taken into custody in St. Augustine, Florida, early Monday morning.

Whited and Tarwater were found dead Wednesday in their home on Piney Woods Drive. Scott also lived at the residence, according to Helena police.

Scott faces two charges of capital murder.
