Veteran Hoover Police Officer Retires

HOOVER, AL — The Hoover Police Department is saying farewell to a longtime officer Friday, as Officer Dedrick Turner is retiring after 22 years with the Hoover PD.

Turner spent 22 of his 30 years in law enforcement serving the Hoover community in various roles within the Hoover Police Department. During his career at HPD, he worked in the patrol division, was a Field Training Officer for new hires and ended the last five years working as a School Resource Officer at Simmons Middle School.

"If you didn't already know, the school thinks the world of Officer Turner," the HPD said in a statement Friday. "They dedicated their 2021 yearbook in his honor. The quote that probably sums up this relationship would be, 'He loves our kids and earnestly cares about each and every one of us that enter the building…A great man and even better friend…SMS is a better place because of you.'"

The HPD said Turner will be missed and that bis retirement, while a happy occasion for Turner and his family, is a sad moment for Hoover.

"Although this is a bittersweet moment for the Hoover community, we all join to wish you well in the next chapter in your life," HPD said. "On behalf Chief Derzis and all of us here at HPD, godspeed and enjoy retirement. Officer Turner, off-duty number 010, is 10-7."
