'This is beyond disgusting': Man charged, but victim's mother blames police chases for daughter's death (wkrg.com) — A Mobile teen charged with vehicular homicide faced a preliminary hearing as questions mounted over how police handled a high-speed chase that ended in a deadly crash. Ivey announces $43.8 million in low-income heating and cooling grants (alreporter.com) — Low-income Mobile residents could see help with power bills thanks to $3.8 million directed to Mobile Community Action from a new $43.8 million statewide heating and cooling grant package. Local applications will run through the agency, which will set its own timelines and eligibility process for families needing assistance.

Holidays are merrier and brighter statewide with help from Alabama Power volunteers (alabamanewscenter.com) — Alabama Power volunteers in Mobile are helping local families, seniors, and shelter residents with holiday meals, toys, and support through more than 30 charitable projects across southwest Alabama. From Penelope House and the Regional Child Advocacy Center to Christmas Eve meal deliveries around greater Mobile, these efforts aim to make the season brighter for those facing tough times.

Instead of gifts, local 9-year-old asks Santa to help other kids (fox10tv.com) — A young girl in the Mobile area is using her Christmas wish to help other children instead of asking for gifts, channeling more than $400 into toys for kids in need. She also donated to local charities and delivered presents to the Saraland Police Department and nearby fire stations to thank first responders, offering a heartwarming example of generosity close to home.
