- On Tuesday morning, Mobile City Council approved a contract for the installation of pickleball courts at a local park. Council approved the $73,250 contract for courts at Lavretta Park during the City Council meeting. According to Senior Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, Shonnda R. Smith, two standing tennis courts at James Seals Park will also be converted into four pickleball courts. (WKRG News 5)
- A strange, ancient creature was found in nearby Coden over the weekend. Tami May, a science teacher, made the discovery of the rare fish — a gulf sturgeon, according to May — that had washed up on the shore of Mobile Bay. Researchers at the University of Southern Mississippi are using the fossil, which has hard protective armor, to learn more about the prehistoric creature. (Fox 10 News)
- On Friday, the LoDa ArtWalk will return for 2023. The Jan. 13 artwalk, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., will be Lego-themed as a tribute to International Lego Day. The event will include Lego giveaways and vendors, along with a screening of The Lego Movie beginning at sundown. (WKRG News 5)
