Mobile International Airport terminal construction under budget, on track for 2026 opening (gulfcoastmedia.com) — Mobile travelers can expect a new airport terminal by fall 2026, as construction at Mobile International Airport is running about $19 million under its $381 million budget and staying on schedule. Airport leaders say design tweaks and rebidding work lowered costs without shrinking the terminal’s features, promising a more efficient, modern travel experience for residents of Mobile and Baldwin counties. 
2. Domestic violence experts urge caution after Lyft driver pistol-whipped trying to help (fox10tv.com) — A Lyft driver in Mobile says she was pistol-whipped after trying to stop what she believed was a domestic violence assault involving her passenger near South University Boulevard. Local shelter leader Tonie Ann Torrans urges residents to call 911 instead of intervening directly and highlights Mobile-area resources that teach safer ways to help in dangerous situations.
3. Mobile Bay sediment being used to make 3D-printed artificial reefs (wkrg.com) — Engineers are turning sediment dredged from Mobile’s waterways into 3D‑printed artificial reef domes that could help restore Mobile Bay and protect Gulf Coast habitats. Early tests in the bay are promising, and researchers are exploring building a large printer in Mobile so future reef structures can be produced locally using nearby dredge material.
4. Iconic '80s Rock Singer, 72, Announces First U.S. Tour Dates for 2026 (parade.com) — Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo are bringing their 2026 tour to Mobile’s Saenger Theatre on January 26, giving local fans a chance to see the iconic ’80s rocker close to home. The short six-city run starts here in Alabama before heading across the Southeast and up to New Jersey, with tickets available online through Benatar’s official site.
5. Santa's helicopter visit delights patients at USA Children's & Women's Hospital (wkrg.com) — Families with children at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Mobile got a joyful midweek surprise when Santa arrived by helicopter for a Christmas tree decorating event. Kids chose trees for their rooms, hung ornaments, and shared snacks, while hospital staff and local ACE Hardware partners emphasized how small celebrations can bring comfort and normalcy during stressful hospital stays.
