'Free America Walkout' Protest Planned For Later This Month In Tuscaloosa
Organizers are gearing up for a peaceful demonstration in Tuscaloosa to protest actions by the administration of President Donald Trump.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Organizers are seeking local participation for a “Free America Walkout" demonstration set for Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Federal Building in downtown Tuscaloosa as part of a nationwide protest promoted by Women’s March–associated activists.

The event is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and is being publicized as a walkout, with participants encouraged to leave work, school or daily routines for one hour as a form of protest against what organizers describe as policies and actions associated with President Donald Trump’s second term.

The event will also coincide with other national "walkouts" across the county set for 2 p.m. local time.
The promotional announcement online characterizes the walkout as a response to what organizers call an “escalating fascist threat,” citing concerns about immigration enforcement, federal troop deployments in American cities, surveillance and civil liberties.

The announcement also urges community members to “walk away from fascism,” “walk toward a Free America,” and organize mutual aid efforts and public service activities during the demonstration.
No official march route was provided in the announcement apart from the location of the Federal Building, which is often host to peaceful political demonstrations.
