Tuscaloosa County School System Sees Overall Improvement On District Report Card

The Tuscaloosa County School System (TCSS) earned an overall B grade with a score of 84 on the 2025 Alabama State Education Report Card

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County School System (TCSS) earned an overall B grade with a score of 84 on the 2024-2025 Alabama State Education Report Card, released Wednesday by the Alabama State Department of Education.

This marks a one-point improvement overall for the school system from last year.

TCSS says the latest score marks the district’s highest score to date and a five-point gain over the past two years, with more than half of TCSS schools showing gains this year.

The state’s annual report card assigns letter grades to each school and district based on academic achievement, academic growth, English language proficiency progress and chronic absenteeism.

High schools are also evaluated on college and career readiness and graduation rates.

For the second straight year, TCSS posted its highest-ever graduation rate at 92.44%, up one point from the previous year.

The district also touted significant progress in reducing chronic absenteeism, which is defined as missing 18 or more days of school in a year for any reason. The rate dropped to 11.8%, down from 15% last year.

Despite improvements, the current rate remains above the district’s pre-pandemic level of 9%
