Self-Defense Believed Motive In Fatal Shooting In Alberta

TPD and the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit are investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department (TPD) and Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit believe self-defense was the motive in a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon.

TPD confirmed to Patch that police initially responded at 3:48 p.m. to a report of one person shot in the 600 block of 30th Avenue East in Alberta.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Captain Marty Sellers later confirmed that one man died as a result of the shooting and "subjects are in custody."

He then told local media Sunday night that evidence suggests the shooting was possibly in self defense.

"The investigation is continuing into the facts of the case," he said. "No additional information will be released tonight."

The identity of the man killed has not been released and no other details were given as to the circumstances of the shooting.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
