DPS Seeking Suspect Wanted In Drive-By Shooting Of AZ Officers

The Arizona Department of Public Safety arrested a teen accused of ambushing officers Thursday, but the driver has not yet been caught.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Public Safety is asking for the public's help in the search for the driver accused in an ambush-style shooting of public safety officers Thursday morning, the department said. The 17-year-old accused shooter is already in custody.

The shooting took place Thursday at 37th Avenue and Portland Street in Phoenix. No injuries have been reported, according to Fox 10.

According to a tweet from the department of public safety, multiple shots were fired at detectives as they sat in their car. They were able to fire back. The car's passenger is in police custody but the driver fled the scene and has not yet been caught. A Blue Alert has been issued, which means that the suspect is considered a threat to law enforcement. DPS is looking to the public for help.

The driver is believed to be driving a silver sedan with custom wheels and chipped paint near the license plate.

"If seen, please call 9-1-1 immediately," the tweet said.

The shooting comes just days after a federal officer was shot at the Sandra Day O'Connor U.S. Courthouse in downtown Phoenix.
