3 In Custody, Accused Of Shooting At State Troopers: DPS

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said three people are in custody and have been accused of firing shots at troopers early Wednesday.

PHOENIX, AZ — Three people accused of firing shots at state troopers are in custody, officials said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said several of its troopers were shot at while they removed a pedestrian from a Phoenix freeway Wednesday morning. No troopers were injured but on shot did hit a DPS car, the department said.

The troopers said the shots came from an industrial area near the junction of Interstates 10 and 17. The Phoenix police sent a helicopter and patrol units to search the area, resulting in the three arrests.

The shooting temporarily closed two ramps from the I-17 to the I-10; both have since reopened.

No additional information was made available and a spokesperson for the department said the investigation is ongoing.
