Amazon Opening 1st Sorting Facility In Glendale This Year

PHOENIX, AZ — E-Commerce giant Amazon is opening the company's first sorting facility in Glendale in 2021.

The new complex will span more than 270,000 square feet, according to a company release.

The facility, which will be located just east of Loop 303, at North Sarival Road and West Glendale Avenue, will serve as a "middle mile" facility, transporting Amazon's packages between sites prior to being delivered to customers.

Construction on the Glendale facility began in January and is slated to open later this year, the release said.

“We are excited to break ground on these new sortation centers in Arizona, where more than 25 years of Amazon’s operational expertise, technology advancements and investment in transportation infrastructure is enabling faster delivery for our community," Amazon operations director Marcus Buford said in the release.

The Glendale facility will join two other Amazon projects slated to open in 2021 in the city's limits, with the three facilities combining to create 1,000 jobs in the Valley, the company said.

“We are honored to welcome yet another global corporation to Glendale’s New Frontier,” Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said in the release. “Amazon’s core commitment to excellence is well known and we are so proud they picked Glendale. This location along the Loop 303 corridor provides businesses like Amazon with unique accessibility while continuing to meet customer needs.”
