Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. The Arizona Educational Foundation has named 36 public schools, including Kenilworth Elementary School in the Phoenix Elementary School District, as recipients of the A+ School of Excellence Award, sponsored by Fiesta Bowl Charities, for the 2022-2023 academic year. The A+ Award recognizes educational excellence and provides a comprehensive framework for school self-assessment and planning, often resulting in greater parent and community involvement. The Fiesta Bowl Charities invests millions of dollars annually in programs and services benefiting Arizona youth and educators and congratulated the 36 schools across the state for their dedicated work to earn this prestigious award. 2. The city of Phoenix achieved its goal of diverting almost all of the trash generated from events related to Super Bowl XLVII, with 92.6 percent of waste being diverted. The goal was in excess of the 90 percent threshold required by the Environmental Protection Agency to define an event as zero-waste. The city recycled 81 tons of material and 51 Zero Waste Ambassadors guided visitors to sort trash, recyclables, and food waste into the proper bins. (KTAR.com)
  3. The nearby Scottsdale Gallery Association and its member galleries will host the Native Spirit Gold Palette ArtWalk on Mar. 2, showcasing Native American culture and heritage. The event will feature exhibitions, performances by Native dancers and drummers, and unique events by participating galleries along Main Street from Scottsdale Road to Goldwater Boulevard and north of Indian School Road on Marshall Way to 5th Avenue. Galleries will showcase works by talented local and national artists, including Tina Garrett, Carlos Ramirez, and Arland Ben. (citysuntimes)
