Phoenix City Council member Sal DiCiccio, who represents District 6, tweeted that the officer was struck several times in a drive-by shooting but was wearing a bulletproof vest. DiCiccio also said the injured officer was a U.S. Marshal who was able to return fire at the car as it sped away after being shot.

"Make no mistake, this is a direct result of the extremist anti-police attacks we have seen from BLM and Antifa across the country," he tweeted. "This insanity needs to stop."
