Ducey Extends Eviction Moratorium, Requires Renters To Reapply
The deadline to reapply for protection from eviction is Aug. 21.
PHOENIX, AZ — The moratorium on evictions that Gov. Doug Ducey put in place in March has been extended, but renters must again notify landlords if they intend to take advantage of the extension.
In an executive Order, Ducey said the moratorium will now extend through to Oct. 31 for renters affected by the coronavirus pandemic. To qualify for the continued delay in evictions, the order requires renters to notify their landlords in writing by Aug. 21, request a payment plan and apply for rental assistance through a state, city, county or nonprofit program.
Renters must also meet a qualifying circumstance detailed by state guidance. Such circumstances include having been affected by the pandemic either by way of a health issue, a required self-quarantine or a substantial loss of income.

Lastly, a renter is then required to provide his or her landlord or property owner with a copy of documentation that shows an application for assistance was completed.
The order states renters are still bound by the terms of the lease agreement and will be required to repay any amounts withheld during the moratorium.
