Here are the top stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Phoenix's big Veterans Day parade is back in person this year after last year's event went virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade will feature 15 marching units and 2,500 marchers. Around 45,000 viewers are expected. Banks and city offices will be closed Thursday and there are plenty of restaurants that are offering freebies and discounts to veterans. (Phoenix Patch)
  2. The Phoenix Zoo has a new resident. He's a one-horned rhino named Chutti who is "rambunctious, agile and spunky." He came to Phoenix from the Fresno Chafee Zoo in Fresno, California. (ABC15 Arizona)
  3. Phoenix's new Office of Heat Response & Mitigation is the first publicly-funded municipal office of its kind. And it was formed for good reason: Phoenix is one of the fastest-warming cities in the country and heat is the No. 1 weather-related killer in the United States. One of the new office's jobs will be to try to curtail heat-related deaths here. (Cronkite News)
