The northbound lanes of Interstate 17 in Phoenix were closed Monday morning after a crash that left one person dead.
PHOENIX — The northbound lanes of Interstate 17 in Phoenix were closed Monday morning after a three-car crash that left one person dead, authorities said.
The crash happened around 4 a.m. Monday near Cactus Road, the Arizona Department of Public Safety told Patch in an email. Traffic diverted off the highway slowed to a crawl.
An estimated reopening time wasn't immediately available. The freeway remained closed around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The driver of a Toyota Camry ran out of gas and stalled on the freeway, blocking lanes, KNX-TV reported. Alan Haywood of the state Department of Public Safety told the TV station the Camry's emergency lights weren't activated, and an SUV crashed into the sedan, followed by a Tesla, killing a woman. Two others were reportedly hurt in the wreck.
