Video: Trump Stops In Phoenix To Court Latino Voters

President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Phoenix Monday for a "Latinos for Trump" event at the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa.

PHOENIX — President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Phoenix Monday for a "Latinos for Trump" roundtable. Arizona is considered a battleground state in the November General Election, and both Trump and his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, plan to court its voters.

Trump touched down at Sky Harbor International Airport around 2:30 p.m. MST before making his way to the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa for a "Latinos for Trump" coalition roundtable at 3 p.m. According to its website, the coalition is "mobilizing to re-elect President Donald. J. Trump by sharing the historic gains made in Latino communities as a result of the Trump administration."

Gov. Doug Ducey met the president as he arrived on the tarmac and thanked him for supporting Arizona during the coronavirus pandemic. Trump, in turn, called him a "great governor."

In his speech at the Arizona Grant Resort, the president touted his presidential accomplishments and his achievements for the Hispanic community, including its low unemployment rates pre-pandemic; unemployment in the community is now at 10.5 percent.

Trump is promising to revive the economy and says “we’re coming back very, very strong.” He said electing Biden would put that revival in jeopardy.

Trump's Monday visit took place shortly after the president stopped by wildfire-ravaged California. Trump was previously in the Grand Canyon state Aug. 18 for a rally in Yuma. Vice President Mike Pence has also announced he will visit Arizona Friday for a "Veterans for Trump" event and a "Libre Initiative Roundtable for Hispanic Heritage Month," according to his office.

Biden has said he will also make his way to Arizona for a campaign stop but has yet to announce a date. His running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, held a virtual roundtable with Arizona small business owners over the weekend.

Trump carried Arizona by 3.5 points in 2016 in his fight for the presidency. Recent polls show the president trailing Biden by as few as three points in Arizona as the Nov. 3 election approaches.
