Man Charged With Murder In Saturday Shooting: Phoenix Police

Vincente Diaz-Vargas was charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting in west Phoenix Saturday.

PHOENIX, AZ — A man has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting in west Phoenix on Saturday morning, Phoenix police said.

The shooting that took place just after 1 a.m. Saturday killed Gloria Zermeno, 20, police said.

Vincente Diaz-Vargas, 37, was charged with first-degree murder, according to police.

Diaz-Vargas is being held in jail on $1 million bail, police said.

If convicted, Diaz-Vargas faces a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.

Saturday's shooting occurred as a group of people were fighting near the intersection of Thomas Road and 43rd Avenue, police said.
