PHOENIX — The family of a teen killed in a south Phoenix car crash Saturday has started a fundraiser to cover the cost of his funeral.

17-year-old Jonathan Felix was killed by a drunk driver Saturday near 87th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. The Phoenix Police Department said Jonathan Felix was the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox when it collided with a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Enrique Garcia around 11:35 p.m. Garcia ran a red light and showed signs of impairment, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson previously said.

Felix was pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia was taken to the Maricopa County Jail and has been charged with second degree murder. He was uninjured in the crash, police said.

For Felix's family, they said Garcia's "terrible decision" to drive while under the influence has changed their lives forever. He had hoped to finish high school and eventually become a lawyer prior to the crash.

"[Jonathan] had a big character and always knew how to put a smile on someone's face, he was compassionate, kind and always saw the best in people," Felix's family wrote in a GoFundMe created to pay for the teen's funeral. "He will be missed very much."
