Mesa Police Chief Ken Cost said a man was seen assaulting a woman at the same location earlier Friday night and one of the food vendors and other bystanders intervened. Police do not believe the two events are related but are not ruling it out.
Cost asked anyone with information — including photos or videos of the shooting and fight— to come forward.
