Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- The Phoenix Chin Bethel Church has found a new home after purchasing a 50-year-old Baptist church for $1 million, represented by NAI Horizon's Church Realty Solutions. The 1.54-acre property, located at 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, was previously occupied by a Korean New Life Presbyterian Church and comes with ample facilities, including a kitchen, security lighting and gate, and 75 parking spaces. The new location will enable the Phoenix congregation to expand its services and better serve its Chin community. (KTAR.com)
- Newly released 911 calls from September reveal the panic that ensued when Central High School in Phoenix went into lockdown after a fight on campus. Despite no evidence of a shooting, students reported hearing gunshots, prompting a massive response from the Phoenix Police Department. The incident has led to discussions about campus safety, with the Phoenix Union High School District holding community meetings to gather input on improving safety on campuses, while State Superintendent Tom Horne is calling for armed police officers on every school campus and redirecting millions in grant money. (Arizona's Family)
- On Wednesday, a man was shot and killed by police near 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street in Phoenix after allegedly pointing a gun at officers. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers were searching for the man in a stolen U-Haul vehicle following a failed traffic stop when the incident occurred. A woman was also inside the U-Haul and is currently being interviewed by police, with no charges currently known to be pressed against her. Earlier in the day, Phoenix officers were involved in a second officer-involved shooting near 23rd and Glendale avenues. (ABC 15)
