Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. A Phoenix officer ingested a "white substance" during a traffic stop, requiring Narcan. On Feb. 1, the officer ingested a white substance when it "escaped" from the car after someone inside rolled down the window during a traffic stop near 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street. The officer passed out and was given Narcan before being taken to a hospital, according to Phoenix Police Lt. Mark Tober. The three people inside the car were taken into custody. 2. According to new data released on Tuesday, Phoenix has seen the largest drop in home price growth nationwide. Across the nation’s largest metros, data from S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price NSA Index shows that Phoenix is currently experiencing the largest decline in home price growth. Data shows that metro Phoenix plummeted to 12th in the nation. Despite this, prices are still almost 40 percent higher than at the onset of the pandemic, according to Selma Hepp, chief economist for CoreLogic. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  3. On Wednesday, the president of Arizona Public Service said that a big rate hike is necessary to keep up with customer demand. APS President Ted Geisler has stated that the proposed rate hike of at least 23 percent is necessary, though the average residential customer would see a net impact of about 13.6 percent if suggested reductions are applied. This would equal about $18 per month. If approved, new rates will take effect on Dec. 1. (KTAR.com)
