Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Two officers involved in a violent arrest at a Valley QuikTrip in October have not been charged. Video of the incident (trigger warning), which occurred on Oct. 27 of last year, shows the two officers hitting and kicking a suspect inside of the convenience store near 59th Avenue and Buckeye Road. The Phoenix Police Department recommended that the Maricopa County Attorney's Office charge Officers Eddie Becerra and Nicholas Beck following the incident. However, a grand jury declined to indict Becerra, according to The Maricopa County Attorney's Office (MCAO); charges were not pursued against Beck. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  2. Three Arizona Lottery players won big over the weekend, including somebody who bought a ticket in Phoenix! The Phoenix winning ticket, worth $40,000, was sold at the Grab N Go/Arco, just off 16th Street. The ticket was for the Mega Millions draw, matching four out of five numbers with the Mega Ball; the winning numbers were 4, 43, 46, 47, 61 and Mega Ball 22. (Arizona's Family)
  3. Beginning tomorrow, Feb. 1, the Arizona Department of Transportation will be temporarily stopping complete freeway closures in Phoenix. The pause comes as the city and surrounding area braces for two special events, the WM Phoenix Open and Super Bowl LVII. The pause will last until Feb. 15; smaller roadwork projects and enhancements will continue as scheduled. (Arizona's Family)
