Phoenix PD Identify 2 Dead After Domestic Violence Fight

PHOENIX — Police on Tuesday identified a man who was killed after a domestic violence incident in Phoenix that left a woman dead and a teenager critically injured.

The Phoenix Police Department said that 53-year-old Paul Sarver and 46-year-old Shannon Hursh died in the altercation. A 13-year-old boy, Caden Sarver, died of his injuries in the hospital on Oct. 30.

Police were called out to a residential neighborhood near Interstate 17 and Jomax Road at around 10 p.m. Sunday after multiple calls about a fight at a home.

When officers arrived, they reported seeing a man outside of the house who told them he had a gun. Police said the man then pointed what appeared to be a gun at the officers, who fired their guns at him in return.

Later identified as Sarver, he died at the scene. A black eyeglasses case was used as a simulated weapon and was found next to Sarver, according to police.

Officers entered the home and found Hursh and the teenage boy with life-threatening injuries, but it is currently unclear if Sarver shot them.

A news release from Phoenix police spokesperson Sgt. Maggie Cox said investigators found that the injuries were a result of "blunt force."

Police said the woman and boy were taken to a hospital in critical condition and Hursh was later pronounced dead.

Law enforcement found an uninjured 11-year-old girl at a neighbor's house, Cox said. The officers later learned that there was a domestic violence relationship between Sarver, Hursh and two children, who were determined to be their son and daughter.

The investigation is ongoing.
