Phoenix Police Investigating After Infant Found Dead In Dumpster

The Phoenix Police Department found an infant's body in a dumpster behind a business near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating after an infant was found unresponsive in a dumpster behind a business complex.

The body was discovered near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road around 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Phoenix Police Department was responding to a call about an injured person. Instead, the infant was found and was pronounced dead on the scene. The police department said it was a newborn baby boy.

"This investigation is in the early stages, and additional information will be provided when it becomes available," said Sgt. Ann Justus, spokesperson for the Phoenix police.

Police are asking anyone who saw something or may know of someone who is no longer pregnant but without a baby to come forward by calling the Phoenix Police Department or contacting Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
