Phoenix Woman Wakes Up With Burglar In Her Bed

A woman at a residential facility for seniors in Phoenix woke up early Monday to find a burglar spooning her in bed, she said.

PHOENIX — A woman living at a senior residential facility in Phoenix woke up in the early hours Monday morning to find herself half-dressed and being spooned by a 25-year-old burglar, the woman told police.

The Phoenix Police Department said the incident took place at the Christian Care Fellowship Square facility near 19th and Sunnyside Avenues. The elderly woman told police she woke up around 3:15 a.m. Monday and Emilio Garcia, the accused burglar, was spooning her in her bed. She was not fully dressed, according to Maricopa County court documents.

The woman told police he ran away after she bit him and took off with some of her items. Sgt. Ann Justus, a spokesperson for the Phoenix Police, told Patch that the victim did not need any treatment for any injuries.

Fellowship Square did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Garcia has since been charged with sexual assault, burglary and theft. He told police that he has no recollection of the incident and officers said he was under the influence at the time. He has a history of legal trouble, including numerous burglary and drug charges.

He will appear in court Oct. 14 for a preliminary hearing.
