Search Ongoing For Phoenix Homicide Suspect In Atlanta

A murder suspect escaped police custody Thursday at Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta, officials said.

PHOENIX, AZ — Deputies from Atlanta and Arizona are searching for a murder suspect who escaped custody at Atlanta airport on Thursday, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

Jsaan Carlos Strover, 20, was being extradited to Arizona Thursday morning in connection with a first-degree murder charge from the Phoenix Police Department when he escaped, the office said.

Strover escaped around 7:15 a.m., while walking to a tram connecting to the airport, according to the sheriff's office.

The office, in coordination with members from Fulton County's Sheriff's Office, pursued Strover into a nearby forest where he escaped, the office said.

The Fulton County Sheriff Office has assumed responsibility for the search, along with the U.S. Marshal's Office.

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone is in contact with members from Fulton County Sheriff's Office and conducting a review of the incident, the office told

“Jeopardizing public safety is unacceptable, we are grateful for the sacrifice and commitment of the Atlanta area law enforcement agencies and are hopeful for a quick and safe outcome for all involved," Penzone said.
