Son Charged In Woman's Death Inside North Phoenix House

Jesus Gamez Ruiz, 24, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Nora Ruiz, on Tuesday. Here's what we know.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 24-year-old man was charged in connection with the death of his mother inside a north Phoenix house, Phoenix police said.

Nora Ruiz, 44, died Monday inside a house near West Peoria Road and North Seventh Avenue with "signs of trauma," according to police.

Nora Ruiz's son, Jesus Gamez Ruiz, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death, police said.

Jesus Gamez Ruiz is currently in jail and is being held on $2 million bail.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Jesus Gamez Ruiz faces a maximum sentence of either death or life in prison, with or without the chance for parole.

Nora Ruiz was found Tuesday after Jesus Gamez Ruiz arrived at a Phoenix hospital, and an officer recognized the address associated with the truck he was driving as one police had responded to previously, police said.

When officers arrived at the house, they found blood on the front door and saw Nora Ruiz lying on the floor inside, with blood around her, according to police.

Officers found two types of saws with blood on them inside the residence. Jesus later admitted his role in the death to investigators, police said.
