SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A husband and wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide inside a home on Sunday night near Pima and Chaparral roads, according to Scottsdale Police.

The incident, which started around 5 p.m., involved the husband shooting his wife, then barricading himself inside the couples' home, before later shooting himself, police said.

Officers tried to make contact with the husband for several hours, according to police.

SWAT officers entered the home just before 11 p.m. and found the husband dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Police identified 36-year-old Royce Dale Lillard III as the suspect in Sunday night's shooting.
