Here are the top three stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. A 9-year-old boy died under the State of Arizona's care in December 2022. Richard Blodgett, the father of Jakob, learned his son died from Type 1 diabetes complications while in the Maricopa County Jail. Blodgett says the Department of Child Safety failed to protect his son, and he died as a result. The death is being investigated by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. (KNAU)
  2. An Oklahoma man was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail for his part in the disappearance of a 4-year-old from Cyril, Oklahoma. Ivon Neil Adams, III, 36, was arrested on Jan. 12 for one count of fugitive justice in Athena Brownfield's case, for which Adams served as a caretaker. Until now, the Cyril community had hoped Brownfield would be found alive, but documents from Maricopa County confirm the case has become a recovery mission as Adams has "an outstanding felony warrant issued out of Oklahoma for murder in the first degree and child neglect." (Texoma's Homepage)
  3. In case you missed it, a community in Scottsdale is facing extreme water supply issues. Rio Verde Foothills, a community with about 1,000 residents, had its water supply source (Scottsdale) shut off at the beginning of the year due to the drought affecting the region. Now, 500-700 homes will have to consider purchasing water from an open, expensive market since they no longer have a regular supply. Residents in the area have taken creative measures to conserve water, such as rainwater collection systems, using paper plates, and skipping showers. (Subscription: Business Insider)
