Here are the top three stories today in Scottsdale:
- On Tuesday, Arizona's House Natural Resources, Energy and Water Committee passed a temporary measure requiring the City of Scottsdale to supply water to the nearby community of Rio Verde Foothills until 2026. The city had previously cut off water supply to the unincorporated Rio Verde community before recently cutting them off. According to Rep. Oscar De Los Santos (D-Laveen), tribal communities across the state are experiencing limited water supply. (KJZZ)
- Phoenix Children's Hospital, which serves children in the Phoenix metro area and across the state, has announced a 212,000-square-foot expansion project at its Thomas Campus. The expansion aims to increase the amount of clinical space, inpatient beds, and clinical exam rooms in response to the growing pediatric population in Arizona. On Feb. 1, the 10th floor of the patient care tower opened with 49 patient beds; over the next year, the hospital plans to open 100 new patient beds and 60 clinical exam rooms. (AZ Big Media)
- Charlie Kirk, the conservative talk show host and founder of Turning Point USA, spoke at Arizona State University on Wednesday. Despite a letter signed by over 30 faculty members protesting his appearance, Kirk gave credit to ASU for allowing the event to proceed. Reports indicate Kirk's talk stuck to the event's theme of "Health, Wealth and Happiness," avoiding any political remarks. (The Arizona Republic)
