Dog Murder-For-Hire Plot: Scottsdale Man Charged

The man is accused of hiring two men to kidnap his ex-girlfriend and kill her dog. The two men were actually Tempe police detectives.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A 65-year-old Scottsdale man was charged in connection with what police called a plot to hire men to kidnap his ex-girlfriend and kill her dog, according to the Arizona Attorney General's Office.

Jay Borker was charged in October with conspiracy, money laundering, attempted kidnapping and attempted second-degree burglary.

Borker was arrested, and bail was set at $5 million. He was released after posting bond in late October.

Trial is set for March 31.

Borker was accused of paying two men $15,000 each in August 2021 to abduct and tie up his girlfriend and to kill her dog, the Attorney General's Office said in a news release.

The men Borker hired were actually two Tempe Police Department detectives working undercover, the attorney general said.
