Grants To Help Scottsdale With Pedestrian, Bicycle Safety

The Scottsdale Police received two grants totaling more than $100k from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety​.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The Scottsdale Police Department is set to use two grants, together totaling more than $100,000, to educate people on the dangers of excessive speed and pedestrian and bicycle safety, according to a news release from the department.

The department was awarded the two grants for fiscal year 2022 from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

With its $80,000 speed awareness grant, the department plans to "focus education efforts on the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving," according to the news release.

The department plans to use its $50,000 pedestrian and bicycle safety grant to fund both education and enforcement efforts for biking and pedestrians safety, including in Scottsdale's entertainment district.

"Serious and fatal traffic collisions have consistently remained an area of concern for our department and these grants will assist in addressing these concerns," Scottsdale Police said in the news release. "Focus will be on speed awareness, pedestrian, and bicycle safety."

The department hopes the grants will help toward its goal of decreasing collisions in the community and increasing safety.
