- Lois Roma-Deeley is officially Scottsdale's new poet laureate. As such, Roma-Deeley will serve as the ambassador to Scottsdale's literary culture and will enhance the presence of this culture in the community. She is the founding director of the Women Writers Workshop at Arizona State University, the associate editor of an international poetry journal, and is an emeritus professor at Paradise Valley Community College. - On the road today through August 29? You better check out the most recent update from the City of Scottsdale. There are significant road construction projects and traffic restrictions occurring this week on or near: Loop 101, Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Thompson Peak Parkway, Scottsdale Road, Via Linda to Cactus Road, Lakeview Drive to 104th Street, Westbound Mountain View Road to 84th Street, McDonald Drive, Thomas and Miller roads intersection, 56th Street, 61st Place, and 64th Street. - Maricopa County Superior court indicted former Arizona Senator Otoniel "Tony" Navarrete (D-Phoenix) on several counts of sex crimes — all involving two minors. If convicted, he faces up to 49 years in prison. Navarrete began representing Phoenix in 2019, and stepped on August 10 after both sides called for his resignation. (Scottsdale Patch)
- The Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships, presented by Talking Stick Resort, returns October 23 — this time with some new elements. In celebration of its 10 year anniversary, the events will being with a field-side Morning Beer Festival. The Polo Party will also debut 22-year-old DJ MPower, who will thrill with electric house music sets. But that's not all!
