MLB Draft: Scottsdale's Wes Kath Selected By Chicago White Sox

Scottsdale native Wes Kath became the 1st Arizona-born player picked in the 2021 MLB Draft Monday. Kath was picked by the Chicago White Sox.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The first Arizona-born prospect selected in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft is Scottsdale third baseman Wes Kath.

Kath, who played high school baseball at Desert Mountain High School, was selected by the Chicago White Sox with the 57th pick of the draft.

The middle infielder previously committed to play college baseball at Arizona State University.

Kath finished his high school career with a .435 batting average in 84 games across four seasons at Desert Mountain, belting 21 home runs and 101 hits across that time frame.

Kath was ranked No. 34 on MLB.com's top-250 draft prospects list heading into the draft.

The Scottsdale native was the first Arizona-born player to be selected in the event. His slot value as the 57th pick is $1.243 million, according to MLB.com.
