The existing routes were unbalanced, according to the city website, due to the city's growth patterns. The new schedule is based on the number of homes on a route and the amount of trash or recycling collected, the city said.

The new routes will be more balanced in the hopes of providing more consistent service and increasing the longevity of equipment by not overloading it, according to the city.
