SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale is the No. 1 city in the country for retirees, according to new rankings from Niche.

Scottsdale also made the list of best cities to live in, overall, in the United States, coming in No. 21 on that list and it ranked No. 24 on the list of cities with the best public schools in the country.

Scottsdale rated well for its plentiful amenities, including shops, bars and restaurants, for its excellent public schools and its suitability for families. Local residents won't be surprised that it ranked lower for affordability and crime and safety.

"Scottsdale is a great city to live in," wrote one Niche reviewer who gave the city five stars. "There are many fun activities and places to go. What I like most about Scottsdale are the restaurants. There are so many great choices of delicious food."

Another reviewer rated Scottsdale a little lower, at four stars, but still had plenty of good things to say about the city.

"Scottsdale is a vibrant and wonderful city with plenty to do," the Niche reviewer wrote. "Food, nature, wonderful weather 9 months of the year. It's great. The only thing I don't like is the culture of people here but you just have to find your people."

Niche creates its annual Best Places to Live rankings using data from the U.S. Census, FBI, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in addition to resident reviews, according to a news release. It also considers factors like the housing market, diversity and walkability.
