Scottsdale's Kristin Atwell Ford was named the artist of the year at Friday's 40th annual Governor's Arts Awards.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The artistic community of Scottsdale was well represented at Friday's 40th annual Governor's Arts Awards event.
Scottsdale-based artist Kristin Atwell Ford won the artist of the year award at the event and was the lone Scottsdale resident to win an award at the event.
Atwell Ford is an Emmy winning filmmaker that's produced several documentaries and feature films, including Fire & Water, The Arizona Centennial Series hosted by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Theodore Roosevelt Dam: Arizona's Living Legacy, for PBS.

She also has collaborated with the Arizona Opera to bring Riders of the Purple Sage to the stage, in addition to other activities.
The 2021 winners were chosen by an independent committee from 24 finalists from 10 Arizona communities.

More than 250 artists, individuals, cultural organizations, businesses and philanthropists have won Governor's Arts Awards dating back to the event's founding in 1981.
