Wrong-Way Driver On Scottsdale Freeway Kills 1

A motorcyclist is dead following a crash with a wrong-way driver on the Loop 101 in Scottsdale, according to the Arizona DPS.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A motorcyclist was killed by a wrong-way driver on the Loop 101 freeway in Scottsdale early Thursday morning, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The DPS said a head-on collision occurred on the Loop 101 near the Indian School Road exit just after 3 a.m. when an SUV going the wrong way hit a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was killed but the SUV driver was not injured.

The department said it suspects the driver was impaired at the time of the crash. Neither the victim nor the driver have been identified.

The northbound Loop 101 is still closed to traffic at Indian School, which is where all cars must exit for the time being, according to the Arizona Department of Public Transportation.

No estimate was given for when the freeway will reopen but the investigation is ongoing.
