2 Dead In Separate Shootings Over Halloween Weekend In Tucson

Two men in their 20s were killed, and no suspects are in custody.

TUCSON, AZ — Two young men were shot and killed in separate incidents in Tucson this weekend, according to police.

Ma’Tayis Michael Mitchell, 24, was shot in the early morning hours Saturday and Gary Marcel Melton, 26, was shot around 10 a.m. Saturday, according to Tucson Police.

Police found Mitchell shot inside a vehicle just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of West Grant Road, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Mitchell and other people who were in the vehicle with him were arguing when Mitchell was shot, police said. Two of the people who had been in the vehicle fled before police arrived. No suspects were in custody as of Sunday.

Melton was found shot just after 10 a.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of North Dodge Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives ask that anyone with information on either shooting call 88-CRIME.
