Pima County Admin Suffered Head Injury, Broken Ribs In Bike wreck

TUCSON, AZ — Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry suffered a head injury and broke several ribs when he was knocked from his bicycle while riding in downtown Tucson Saturday morning, according to a news release from the county.

He is in stable condition and making slow progress toward recovery, according to a statement from his wife, Maureen Huckelberry.

Maureen Huckelberry thanked everyone who shared their concerns and their wishes for her husband's speedy recovery.

"The outpouring of concern, love and respect for him is overwhelming and has really helped our family in this difficult time," she said in the statement released by the county. "He is getting wonderful and exceptional care by his team of medical professionals. We thank everyone who has respected our wish for privacy in these initial days of his care and treatment.”

Chuck Huckelberry was hit by a vehicle when bicycling with friends Saturday morning, according to the county.

On Monday afternoon, Huckelberry's family released a statement on the accident, describing him as an "experienced and avid rider" who was wearing a helmet, gloves and a bright jersey at the time of the crash. They said he never wore earphones while riding and was focused on a safe and fun ride.
