• Inmate dies in assault at San Luis prison, investigation underway (kawc.org) — A man incarcerated at the Arizona State Prison Complex–Yuma in San Luis has died after an apparent assault by other inmates, according to state corrections officials. He was taken to Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators with the Department of Corrections and the county medical examiner are treating the case as a homicide and reviewing potential charges.
   

• Cibola girls soccer wins Great Southwestern Soccer Tournament (kyma.com) — Yuma fans can celebrate as Cibola’s girls soccer team captured its first-ever Great Southwestern Soccer Tournament title with a dominant 5–0 win over Calexico at home. Strong goalkeeping, relentless pressure, and late scoring sealed the shutout and showcased the Raiders’ early-season potential under head coach Andres Preciado.
   

• Communities at outskirts of major metro areas pace population count for Arizona (azdailysun.com) — New state population estimates show Yuma at 104,263 residents as of July 1, 2025, growing about 1.5% over the past year. That pace trails some booming suburbs but still reflects steady local growth. Nearby San Luis and Somerton are also expanding, underscoring continuing population gains along the lower Colorado River corridor.
