Middle School Holds Relay for Life in Memory of Beloved Teacher
The death last year of teacher Georgia Luxenberg prompts the Lindero Canyon Middle School's community to coordinate their very first Relay for Life carnival.
Lindero Canyon Middle School held its first Relay for Life Wednesday in memory of Georgia Luxenberg, a beloved teacher who lost her battle with cancer last August. Luxenberg taught at the school for 18 years.
"Lindero was a very important part of my mother's life," said Liz Armstrong, Luxenberg's daughter and former Lindero student. "Her students were very dear to her. So this would have meant a lot to her."

Though typically a Relay for Life runs over a 24-hour period, the school's event, which was also a carnival, lasted two hours and raised money for the American Cancer Society through ticket and bake sales.
"Our goal is to raise $5,000," said Carole Firestone, a teacher and volunteer.
The festivities included a walking track, obstacle course, bungee challenge, dunk tank, pie toss, as well as food, and prizes.
