Thousand Oaks Youth Basketball Coach Attacks Referee: Report
A youth basketball coach was fired after putting his hands around a referee's neck at a Thousand Oaks game.
AGOURA HILLS, CA — A Thousand Oaks youth basketball coach was fired over the weekend after attacking a referee on video.
The coach of the Cavs youth 10 and under basketball team can be seen in a video with his hands on the neck of a referee at a game at the Thousand Oaks Sports Academy. The coach has since been fired, Southern California Cavs youth basketball founder Darryl McDonald told TMZ.
The incident was reported to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department but there has been no further action by authorities, ABC7 reported. Authorities acknowledged the attack was a possible misdemeanor battery but told ABC7 the victim would have to file a report for the incident to move forward.

The coach became frustrated after his team got two technical fouls, McDonald told TMZ. A verbal altercation occurred before the coach put his hands around the referee's neck.
Another referee broke up the fight, which did not continue for long, McDonald told TMZ after investigating the incident.

Another moment of sports violence was caught on video when a former NBA player's daughter sucker punched another kid at a youth basketball game in Orange County, after hearing from her mom in the stands. The mom, Latira Shonty Hunt, was charged with misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and battery.
In January, a Laguna Hills High School student was caught on video yelling racist insults at a Black athlete. The students' district said in a statement the student was "counseled, and immediate, appropriate consequences and discipline have taken place."
