Alameda County Unemployment Ticks Up In November

Alameda County's unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.1 percent last month from 3 percent in October.

ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda County's unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.1 percent last month from 3 percent in October, according to the California Employment Development Department, which tracks the numbers.

Those numbers are down from more than 4 percent in November of last year.

Unemployed workers numbered 26,000 this November in a workforce of more than 827,000. Economists define the workforce or labor force as people working or looking for work.

Among the cities and unincorporated areas, Cherryland had the highest unemployment rate at 5.3 percent followed by San Lorenzo at 3.9 percent.

Oakland's unemployment rate was 3.7 percent, the highest among Alameda County cities.
In the Oakland-Hayward-Berkeley metropolitan division, 3.2 percent of the workforce was unemployed last month. The Oakland-Berkeley-Hayward division includes all of Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Statewide, 4 percent of workers were unemployed in November. None of the data is seasonally adjusted.
