Alameda Free Library To Host A Variety Of August Events

Author talks, topical lectures, a film fest and an art-and-music-themed workshop are in the library's lineup this month.

ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda Free Library is hosting a slew of events this month, and the local community is invited to attend.

Here are some of the scheduled offerings, all of which are free and open to the public:

August 9, 2 p.m to 4 p.m.: “Sound and Vision,” a monthly series that showcases local artists, returns this month with intuitive drawing led by Anjelica Colliard, aka Jellicore, a live music set from Eli Wise, aka Ghosts and Logic, and “bibliomancy” featuring Kam. Registration is not required for this event, and materials for the intuitive drawing will be provided.

August 16, 2 p.m.: Author Brian Copeland will read from his newest mystery thriller, “Shadows of Justice: A Topher Davis Thriller” at this “Artist Talk” event. He’ll be interviewed by local mystery writer Janet Dawson, who will also field audience questions.

August 18, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Learn more about the “History of U.S. Immigration” courtesy of immigration and community worker and organizer Constanza Yanez. At this event, Yanez will discuss current immigration policies and ways to support immigrant neighbors. Post-audiovisual presentation, there will be an audience Q&A.

August 20, 4 p.m. (online): At this “Author Talk,” Casey McQuiston will read and discuss her latest romantic comedy, “The Pairing.” To register for the event and ask McQuiston questions about her novel, go here.

August 23, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.: In celebration of Trans History Month, the Alameda Free Library will be hosting “Trans Film Mini-Fest 2025” featuring films from local transgender filmmakers. At the event, the filmmakers will “screen their works and chat with audiences about their processes and the importance of film as a medium to bring trans experiences into public awareness,” according to library staff.

August 28, 11 a.m. (online): Dr. Tasha Eurich, an organizational psychologist and researcher, will discuss her newest book, “Shatterproof: How to Thrive in a World of Constant Chaos (And why resilience alone isn’t enough)” at this “Author Talk.” To register for the event and ask Eurich questions about her book, go here.

Unless listed above as happening online, all scheduled events will be held in Alameda’s Main Library, in the first floor Stafford Meeting Room. The library’s address is 1550 Oak St., Alameda.
