The new Mama Papa Lithuania Restaurant at 1241 Park St. is "quaint and charming," according to a recent review in the East Bay Express. Reportedly the only Lithuanian restaurant on the West Coast, the cafe dishes up classic regional recipes including potato dumplings, stuffed cabbage rolls and, for dessert, honey cake. An affiliation between Alameda Hospital and the Alameda Health System is moving ahead after the AHS board of directors approved the reorganization last week, according to an Alameda Hospital press release. The City of Alameda Health Care District board had approved the agreement earlier. Under the plan, Alameda Hospital will continue to provide some acute hospital beds and an emergency room. Alameda's Rosenblum Cellars has opened — or rather, reopened — a second tasting room in Healdsburg, Sonoma Co., according to a press release from the local winery. The Healdsburg visitors' center had been closed for five years until it reopened this fall. The local tasting room at 2900 Main St. Alameda, remains open as well. A former Oxnard, CA math teacher was arrested in Alameda in mid-November on a warrant for two counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child, according to an article in the Ventura County Star. (The arrest took place on Fifth Street on Nov. 20, according to the Alameda Police Department log.) The assaults took place in Texas between 2008 and 2011, the article said. Jason Griego, 38, apparently traveled to Alameda after he was placed on administrative leave by the Oxnard school in October. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita County Jail and faces possible extradition to Texas, the article said. You may read the complete Ventura County Star article here.
